Rendez-vous Bundesplatz

The Rendez-vous Bundesplatz is a cultural event focussing on a mapping show of the Swiss Federal Palace in Bern. It was presented by Starlight Events for the first time in 2011. Since then, Brigitte Roux has presented a 3D mapping projection show on the façade of the Bundeshaus every year.
For the last 5 years, Tim Schmelzer has worked as art director on the artistic design. Together with the production team from Lumine Projections, a wide variety of projection shows have been produced and presented to visitors free of charge.

Realised artwork productions:

Volare - 2024
Mystic - 2023
Point Nemo - 2022
Planet Hope "comeback" - 2021
Planet Hope - 2020
First Step - 2019

VOLARE

VOLARE
The colourful birdlife of Switzerland.

On the occasion of the centenary of the Swiss Ornithological Institute in Sempach, which has been committed to the protection of native bird species for 100 years, an entertaining insight into the fascinating world of Swiss birds was presented at the “Rendez-vous Bundesplatz” in Bern in 2024.
The façade of the Bundeshaus was imaginatively transformed into the most diverse habitats of the bird world. In front of this scenery, some of the most fantastic peculiarities of the feathered animal world were presented with atmospheric music. Of course, with a little tongue-in-cheek again.

POINT NEMO

POINT NEMO
A journey into the deep of the sea.

The adventures of Captain Nemo and his characteristic submarine, the Nautilus, are deeply rooted in childhood memories. These memories inspired Tim Schmelzer to develop a story based on Jules Verne's novel "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea".
Named after Jules Verne's Nautilus captain, Point Nemo, the pole of inaccessibility in the South Pacific, is the furthest point from any land. In the story that bears the name of this place, the Nautilus sets off in search of the Federal House, which disappears into the depths of the oceans. The submarine guided visitors to Bern's Bundesplatz through the fascinating world of the deep sea with poetry and imaginative scenes.

MYSTIC

MYSTIC
In the depths of the forest.

There is something mystical in the depths of our forests that fires our imagination. Numerous myths and legends from the forests characterise the stories from our childhood.
The time of the uninhibited fantasies of childhood and the wonder of the fascinating biotope of our forests characterise the imagery of this story. At the beginning of the story, the Bundeshaus is transformed into a nest. It symbolises security and, as a home, offers its inhabitants safe protection until their offspring set off into a free world. In between, shining fairies, industrious goblins and singing trees tell a fairytale story with humour and boundless imagination.

PLANET HOPE

PLANET HOPE
On the mission to save our planet.

Climate change, the exploitation of resources and social conflicts are currently threatening our planet. Based on Tim Schmelzer's idea, the Bundeshaus was transformed into a ship that embarks on an adventurous mission to save the earth.
The "Planet Hope" set sail and took the audience on an imaginative journey from the rainforest to the Arctic. Topics ranging from sustainable energy production and the consequences of global warming to the preservation of world peace through international understanding and cultural exchange were addressed. A journey through time to the origins of our planet catapulted the audience back from the present to the Big Bang in exponential leaps in time. Some of the themes of the production related to the 17 sustainability goals of the United Nations and their symbols of Agenda 2030.

FIRST STEP

FIRST STEP
A journey to the moon.

To mark the 50th anniversary of the first manned moon landing, a 3D mapping show was created for the Parliament in Bern. The impressive presentation entitled "First Step" not only covered the first steps on the moon, but also shed new light on this unique event. The show looks at mankind's early vision of the sky, right up to the return of the astronauts from the first moon landing. The audience was treated to a high-contrast production about the moon landing sketched in Tintin's comic strip, a federal building dissolving into the void, the moving images of the daring moon landing and the happy return of the astronauts.
